Firefighting
exercise On Saturday 4 June, Holmöns Rescue Squad will have a firefighting exercise. All who want to know more about the Rescue Squad and maybe join are welcome to attend the exercise. To be part of the Rescue Squad is a voluntary commitment. There are no jour time that you have to sign up for and there is no demand that you should be available on Holmön. We have 1 exercise each year before the summer season. There is an hourly earnings during exercise and after turnout. You are insured when you participate in the Rescue Squad. If something occur, it is SOS-Alarm that alerts by turning on the typhoon at the fire station. All in the rescue squad will also be alerted by telephone / sms. Each time, you decide for yourself if you have the possibility to participate in the turnout. There is no demand that you have to participate, it is totally voluntarily. For that reason, it is valuable that we are many individuals listed at the squad. Are you interested to participate? Lottery Ett lottery, with the handsewn quilt from last years exhibition at the Boat Museum as prize, will be arranged this summer. The lottery tickets will mainly be sold at the reception at the Boat museum. Karin Lundemark is lottery manager. The quilt top side is made ov sea blue cotton fabric, interlayer is made of Texel wool (a wool specially suitable for quilts) and the botom side is white cotton fabric. The quilting (stitches) are made with white cotton yarn in a ptterna inspired by Japanese Sashiko stitches and that reminds of the sea waves. A very fine and comfortable quilt that was made by some enthusiats in during last summer exhibition. The lottery is arranged in the benefit of the Boat museum. 2016-05-19 |

The Reindeers on their way from Holmön This weekend, the same's are building a temporal corral north of Salteriet to assemble the reindeers for transport from Holmön. They plan to make the transports during the comning weeks. When the reindeers are assembled, they will fly helicopter to scout for remaining reindeers on both skerries and the larger islands to be able to assemble as many as possible. 2016-04-10 |

Info about Panget Panget is now sold and the new owners is from Gravmark outside Sävar. They will take over in the autumn and later on Holmöportalen will present the new owners and their plans. This summer, Conny and Ulrika will run Panget a last season. They will open on 10 June and run up to 14 August. They will have pub evenings with troubadour and TexMex-buffé on Wednesdays. It is too much snow in the back of the boat museeum and that place is also exposed in SW-Wind. The porbalbe place is on the ice by the Mail rowing house or beside the shop. This year kick race
At the Municipality joining in 1974 when Holmön Municipality joined Umeå Municipality all inhabitants in the joining municipalities was offered Semmel Buns. Umeå Cultural Board continued this for some years and i cooperation with the Ski and Outdoors Associationa Torch Slalom was arranged in ski slopes in Umeå. This was not possible to arrange on Holmön why the idea of the Kick Race was born. Holmön Red Cross picked up the glove and since 1985 this tradition has been kept alive. This year was the 31st Kick Race. The largest number of participants has been 50 st in 1996. The 4 L of Blueberry soup, 120 semmel buns and 20 L of coffee was consumed and six raffles with 100 lots was sold to collect money to the Red Cross. In 2005 Lars Brakander was first with, at that time, the fastest race with the time 9.20. Lars brother John came second with the time 10.50 and Oscar Egnell just behind with 11 min sharp as good third. New record was set by Linus Lundberg 2007 with 9 min sharp. Moste first places by own force has Samuel Lindkvist and John Brakander. Both has been first 3 times each. Oldest participant so far has been Karl-August Holmgren, who in 2003 particpated at an age of 79 år. The youngets particpants so far has been the twins Fanny and Nelly Nygren, who were just over 1 month old when they participated for the fist time in 2001. 2016-03-09 |

Reminder of the new evening tour With the new schedule there is an evening tour on the last Saturday each month. The tour depart from Norrfjärden at 22.00 and return with turnning tour from Holmön. After April this tour will be evaluated. This means that after 4 tours (last Sat in jan-april), there will be an evaluation. If this tour has not been used, the logical evaluation will be that this tour is redundant and will be closed. Saturday next week is the last Saturady in January and therefore the first evenig tour with the new schedule. The Holmöportal encourage all islander to take advantage of this tour to show the need. Invite dinner company, make a city visit with cinema or a restaurant dinner or visit friends. This is a normal winter Now Holmön Portal only has reported of cancelled ferry tours, but we must remind that we during the past two winter have had unnormally favourable winters for the ferry traffic. There is no one on Holmön that has believed that there is a boat suitable for the Holmön line that also cope with all ice situations. No matter which ferry we will have, there will be stop in the communication due to hard weather or ice conditions. What we experience now in January 2016 with cancelled tours due to hard weather or ice conditions has been the normal during the past 20 years. We have had 4 winters with continuous ferry traffic the whole winter (of which two are the lastest winters). The longest ice winter was 1996 with ice conditions from New Year to Walpurgis. A normal winter means ice conditions from late January to beginning of April. Earliest iceformation was in 1996 when Kvarken frose during New Year weekend. The ferry ran a moring tour on New Year Eve that took about 2 h single way and was then cancelled. After the Epiphany on 7 JanuarY the snowmobile track was opened. Smoothest icing was in 1999 when the ice cover grow during 4 days with calm days at -20. The ferry ran in a track and the change from ferry to winter traffic was made with out stop. The worst season was in 2003 when the ice never froze and became consolidated. The whole of Kvarken was filled with compact open ice that never frose and consolidated. The ice was to compact for Helena but drifted and could not be crossed. That winter we had daily helicopter tours for three month. We living on Holmön recognize this. This is normal winter everyday. The natures force shall be respected and we have to adapt and not in vain try to subdue. An praise to the staff on the ferry that they do as much as possible to maintain the traffic. We are also positively surprised by Färjerederiet that they so quickly manage to resume the traffic (see note above). 2016-01-14 |
