How to get there 
Holmöfärjan (Holmön Ferry) 

To Holmön runs the ferry Helena Elisabeth, also called Holmöfärjan. The ferry line is operated by Vägverkets Färjerederi on commission from  Vägverket region Nord

The ferry goes between Byviken on Holmön and Norrfjärden on the main land. Norrfjärden is situated approx 30 km NE of Umeå. There are three daily tours during summar time and two during the rest of the year. A time table for the ferry can be found below. The ferry is free of charge.

When the sea freeze during the winter the traffic is maintained by means of a hydrocopter (an amphibic wheicle) or with snowmobiles. Länstrafiken is responsible for the ice traffic, which follows the same time table as the ferry. Since there are limited seats, reservations is recommended. Observer that wind and ice conditions can cause changes in the schedule, especially spring and autumn. 
If the ferry becomes full there will be an extra tour. 
The ferry tour is free of charge. Car and trailer should be booked with the ferry staff. Telephone to the ferry is 070 - 3464819.

Service on Holmön

Shop, Post office, Bank, Bottle shop representative,  Pharmacy e t c.
Lanthandeln (Village country store) is situated in the middle of the village about 300 m south of the road crossing "Bergudden Fyr" (approx 2.5 km from Byviken). This shop is a combined country store, post office, Bank, Bottle shop representative, Pharmacy reprsentative and small library.

Restaurants and eating placecs.
"Panget", Holmö Nya Havbad (Holmö New Sea Shore Restaurant) lies approximately 300 m from the harbour in Byviken. Open daily during the summer Sun-Thur 11.30-22.00, Fri-Sat 11.30-01.00. Bike rental opens at 9.00. Read more at Visit Holmön

Hamnkrogen is situated close to the quays in Byviken (where the ferry arrives) and serve genuine plain food, hamburgers and coffee, wafers e t c. Hamnkrogen is fully licensed and offers entertainment on weekend nights. Open only during the Song Festival. Tel +4690 55111.

Tourist Information can be found in the Boat Museum. Tel +4690 55220. Open daily from mid-June to mid-August.

Showers/Laundry can be found in the service building close to the Guest jetty at the east side of Byviken. Tokens for hot water in the showers and for the laundry machine can be purchased in the Tourist Information.

Activities
Beach. Beaches can be found in Byviken, Trappsand on east side of Trappudden (approx 3 km from Byviken) and at the bridge to Ängesön in Sörsundet (approx 8 km south of Byviken). 

Fishing. Fishing with rod is free in the sea and lakes. Good spots for spin-fishing for pike can be found on the shore of Jebäckssundet. At the bridge between Holmön and Ängesön perch can be fished with worm bait. In the lakes on Ängesön both perch and pike will bite. Bergudden Fyr, LillHällan and Trappudden are suitable places for fly-fishing for grayling and trout. 

Mushrooms and berries. In late summer and autumn there are lots of wild berries and mushrooms in the forests on the island. Wild berries and mushrooms in the forest are free to pick i Sweden.

Sightseeing. 
The Boat museum is situated in Byviken. Tel +4690 55220. Open daily.

The church lies in the northern part of the village. 

Bergudden Fyr (Bergudden Lighthouse) lies on the western side of Holmön approx 3 km from Byviken. Guided tours can, during summer time, be arranged at the Tourist Information

Ödekyrkogård (Old cemetery). Just below the road crossing "Bergudden Fyr" an old cemetery can be found. At the site there is also a replica (2 m high) of the church Helena Elisabeth, the first church on Holmön, which has been moved and re-erected at Gamlia museum area in Umeå

Jebäckshamnen (Jebäcksundet quay) lies at the widest part of the strait between Holmön and Ängesön. It has been a small fishing harbour with a stone quay and old boathouses. The harbour is now in poor condition and is only used for small leisure boats. 

Stora Fjäderägg is an island north of Holmön with a lighthouse and a ornithology station. The island has a unique biotope with low juniper scrub and cobblestone areas and is an el Dorado for ornithologists. There are also old unique ancient remains, e.g., stone labyrinths and compass cards. Suitable for daily excursions in good weather. Summer time it is possible to go with the sloup to Fjäderägg. It is a 3 km boat trip from Byviken that takes about 40 min. Read more at Slupen.
Damina is another operator that usually can arrange boat transports to Stora Fjäderägg. Damina has a modern faster boat and the trip takes about 15-20 min.  [See pictures]

Wildlife sanctuary. The eastern part of Holmön and the major part of Ängesön is a wildlife sanctuary. It is Sweden's largest archipelago sanctuary and was founded to preserve the unique archipelago forest biotope on the islands. Walking tracks and pick-nick grounds have been made to facilitate access to sanctuary.

Beside the restaurants, the shop and other services there are also:

Kaplangården
Holmöns retirement home, offer dwelling for elderly on the island and is operated as an incorporated association. Kaplangården lies neighbour to the shop and is recently expanded. Presently there are place for 5-6 residents. Room can be rented for short or long term also for tourists and others during the summer.
